It focuses on the discipline of Business Relationship Management (BRM), which is a set of competencies (knowledge, skills, and behaviors) that fosters an effective, value-producing relationship between a service provider (like an IT department, HR, or Finance) and its business partners/units.

The core idea of BRM is to maximize the value derived from services and close the gap between business needs and service provision—often called the "Alignment Challenge."

A BRM acts as a connector, orchestrator, and navigator between the service provider and the business units. Key aspects include:

Working with business leaders to contribute to strategy formulation and shape the demand for the provider's services.

Using Portfolio Management techniques to ensure investments realize maximum business value.

Developing and maintaining high-quality, trusted relationships to drive better business outcomes.

Minimizing "value leakage" by successfully navigating organizational change programs.

Helping the organization evolve toward a Relationship-Centered Organization.
