Hey, I’m Emal, a Virtual Production–focused filmmaker who loves being on set.

I’m especially interested in cinematography, lighting, and real-time
workflows using Unreal Engine.

I’ve worked with volumetric capture and Virtual Production pipelines, and I’ve operated cameras on short films. I’ve contributed to VFX projects such as The Nevers, The Penguin, and House of the Dragon.

I also have a background in iOS software engineering and am now fully focused on creative, on-set work.

    Development of the iOS Witness Camera app.
    The VFX supervisor at HBO contacted me to help them replace all their GoPro witness cameras with iPhones. I've conceived, designed, and developed an iOS Witness Camera app that is currently being used on set for an upcoming TV show. The app allows the user to get a live camera preview from multiple iPhones, record video simultaneously from all the devices, and upload the video automatically to iCloud. The app is fully functional offline. My main tasks were to:
    - Create UX and wireframes with InVision
    - Create multi-camera recorder (video and photo) with AVFoundation
    - Stream the video feed using Multipeer Connectivity
    - AppStore Connect and TestFlight configuration
    - Use SwiftUI, Combine and CoreImage

    I worked with the VFX Supervisor of The Nevers TV show to assist the team in setting up and using volumetric capture with multiple RGBD cameras.
    - Install and use the Azure Kinect SDK
    - Connect up to 10 Kinect devices to a single PC
    - Create a rig on a live set to enable the capture of actor performances
    in real time. The challenge was to connect multiple Azure Kinect cameras to a single PC positioned 20m away from the set.
